MVNO Zero1 Joins the 5G SA Bandwagon
Zero1 Joins 5G SA Movement, Accelerating Singapore’s Network Migration
Zero1, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Singapore, has announced an upgrade to its mobile offerings, migrating two of its plans to the high-speed 5G Standalone (SA). This move affects customers on the Streamo Freedom (5G) and Movemo Dash (5G) plans, priced at S$15/month and S$20/month respectively.
The transition, which was spotted by Ocworkbench in a recent company announcement, appears to be part of a broader industry shift. It is believed to be in line with a directive from the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), with a deadline of December 31, 2025, for the complete phase-out of 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) networks.
This regulatory push is accelerating the adoption of 5G SA, which offers enhanced capabilities like lower latency and network slicing, promising a more robust and future-proof mobile experience.
Zero1’s decision to upgrade its mid-to-high-tier plans aligns with the prevailing trend in the local telecommunications market. It is anticipated that other MVNOs, such as CMLINK, VIVIFI, and ZYM, will soon follow suit, converting their comparable plans to 5G SA.
For lower-tier plans, it is expected they will remain on the 4G+ network, offering a more budget-friendly option for users with more modest data needs.
The upgrade from Zero1 intensifies the competition in the affordable 5G SA market.
All Eyes on Starhub
M1’s sub-brand Maxx currently holds the title for the lowest-priced 5G SA plan at S$10/month. MVNO Circles Life has also been active in this space, with promotional 5GSA plans that can go as low as S$8.30/month. The pricing pressure is clearly pushing telcos and MVNOs to deliver high-speed connectivity at increasingly competitive rates.
The focus now shifts to the MNO StarHub and its mobile sub-brands. It remains to be seen whether the telco will extend 5G SA access to its eight (8) users, or if it will continue to be an exclusive feature for its Giga subscribers.
As the December 2025 deadline approaches, the entire Singapore mobile market is expected to complete its full migration to the 5G SA network, ushering in a new era of connectivity for all users.
